And this is what our brake controller looks like when it's installed. You will receive a mounting button for a knockout that you can use if you have any knockouts, our vehicle didn't but you can still mount it in the dash. And one of the big differences you're gonna notice here between a traditional brake controller is this is all the footprint that we've got here in our vehicle. Unlike those big boxes that hang down underneath where you're potentially and your legs on it, they're harder to see, harder to activate the manual slide, you get the opportunity to mount this in a much more discreet location. The actual main unit is hidden behind the dash and then all of our interfaces with the small button here. more

Rob: Hey everybody. Rob here at etrailer.com and today we're going to be taking a look at the Draw-Tite I-Command brake controller on our 2015 Chevrolet Express van. Now obviously you can see we've got a work van here, so we have a lot of gear in the back, which adds to the weight of our van. But then once we add our trailer on the back, that's even more weight. So now when we're going down the highway or driving down the road, all that weight from the trailer is pushing forward that's where our brake controller is going to help. It's going to turn the brakes on our trailer on and activate them whenever we need them. more

And unlike some brake controllers, it doesn't have to be mounted completely level, it can be mounted 90 degrees up or down, which gives you a lot more options on where you could mount your brake controller. On the brake controller itself, you'll have an LCD display to output whether it's connected or not. "NC" would indicate not connected and just a "C", like we have here, shows that we are connected. more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2010 Chevrolet Express Van

Speaker 1: Today in this 2010 Chevrolet Express Van we will be having a look at, and showing you how to install the Tekonsha Primus IQ trailer brake controller part number TK90160.To ease your install we'll be using universal seven way trailer brake controller kit, part number ETBC7.Here's what our brake controller looks like installed. Now what's great about this brake controller, is that this is a proportional brake controller, which allows us to slow down smoothly, and safely when we're towing a trailer, and our brakes are being applied instantly versus with a timed delay brake controller, it's also not gonna give you a jerky ride like a time delayed brake controller would. Now the reason you're gonna want a brake controller such as this one is if you're towing a trailer that has electric brakes, you won't be able to control them without having a brake controller. Now what sets this brake controller apart from other proportional units on the market is not only is this a very high quality unit, but it's also a very simple one to use without a lot of overly complex features. This gives you the basic functions that you need in order to safely, and easily utilize trailer brakes. To our right we have our manual override, and what this does, this will apply our trailer brakes to the maximum level that we have set the further we press it in.The reason you want a manual override is because if your trailer starts to sway behind you, or starts to jackknife, you would want to slow the trailer down, not your vehicle, that'll make things worse. So by applying this, only the brakes on the trailer will be applied without you applying your vehicle's brakes.Over here to the left this is our gain adjustment knob. This knob here controls how much power is being sent to your trailer brakes. Right now if it's set all the way up you see our display reads at 11, and we start to roll it back it'll start to drop back down all the way down to zero, which means no trailer brakes being applied.General rule of thumb, you want to start it somewhere in the middle, so about five and a half will be ideal. more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2016 Chevrolet Express Van

Speaker 1: Today on our 2016 Chevrolet Express we're gonna be installing the Tekonsha Primus trailer brake controller, part number TK90160. The Primus is gonna provide all of your necessary features for your entry level brake controller system. This is gonna more stripped down compared to some of your other models, it's only gonna have your primary functions that's necessary. It's got a digital display versus other models that may have an LCD however this one will still be able to provide you with diagnostic features as well as displaying voltage to your trailer during braking. It provides a proportional braking system so the harder you brake the harder your trailer brakes will brake. This also works with the momentum of the vehicle so as it detects more momentum it does apply harder brakes in the back to stop your trailer at the same rate as your vehicle. There's no level adjustment required unlike some other models that may require you to drive the vehicle and set your level adjustment before the proportional braking will work properly. more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2016 Chevrolet Express Van 90885

Today on our 2016 Chevrolet Express we'll be installing the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller, part number 90885. To ease our installation, we'll be using the ETBC7 kit. The Tekonsha Prodigy P2 is a truly proportional brake controller, which allow us to control from one to four axles of electric trailer brakes. By being truly proportional it'll apply the brakes on your trailer in direct proportion to the amount that your towing vehicle's slowing down. If you're going down a hill you don't have to worry about false triggers being activated because the brake controller is not activated at all until you apply the brakes in your vehicle. When you apply the brakes it shows how much power is going to your trailer brakes. Now, as you hold the brakes for awhile it dials down the power so you don't have to worry about your magnetics on your trailer brakes becoming overheated and shorting out. more
